Exactly one year ago today, I finished chemo. Needless to say, my journey didn’t end there, but it was one hell of a milestone.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to celebrate this particular day, and so far, I’ve come up with not much.
Get drunk? Well, I’ve been having trouble with alcohol since finishing chemo, so that’s not really an option.
Eat tasty food? I never stopped.
Go for a long run? My body can’t quite swing that one yet.
Short run? Hmmmm…
Walk/jog? Okay, that one I can do.
Inadvertently, though, I’ve already celebrated this milestone this morning. I had to turn a document for work. I spent until midnight on it last night and then woke up at 6am to finish it. Three and a half uninterrupted, break-free hours later, I sent the document along. And the minute I hit “send” I realized that this was a BIG DEAL. Working until midnight…waking up early and working more…no break…no focus-glitches…no blurry sight or confused grammar…this was a BIG FUCKING DEAL.
Clearly, not the way I usually celebrate big milestones, but I’ll take this one to the bank.
